Making Home Crafts in Houston

You don’t need to be a crafting professional in Houston to generate beautiful DIY crafts to lighten up your home, or for personal interests. You only need a few materials, and you’ll be good to start. Check out these easy home crafts below, which can be easily be made with things you find around your home in Houston. 

1. A Vintage Book Planter

You can transform your old books into beautiful, unique planters. It is a simple DIY craft for both kids and adults. You only need to take out the pages of a book and glue them together using your fingers. Once the pages have dried, add your favorite succulents. This will make for a lovey planter anywhere in your home or a beautiful gift to lighten up someone’s day. 

2. Confetti Dot Vases

You can easily create this beautiful dotted flower vase to brighten up your room as well as your mood. You only need a few items that you more than likely already have lying around your house like, a small glass vase, about four different colors of paint, some toothpicks, or even q-tips will work. Once you have finished decorating your jar, let it dry for 24hrs then bake it in the oven. You will be left with a lovely vase for your dining table. 

3. Party Candles

Do you or someone you know have a birthday coming up, is a DIY project that can transform any birthday cake. Some pure beeswax, you can make colorful and floral candles. You can personalize them with glitter, different colors, and if you’re creative, you can make different shapes that you usually wouldn’t find at the store. 

4. Giant Paper Dahlias

This great craft involves creating beautiful paper versions of flowers. All you need are the materials you already have, such as cardboard/card-stock circles, scrapbook paper, double-sided tape, and a pair of scissors. By following the instructions in the video, you will be left with beautiful flowers to decorate any room of your choice. 

5. Simple Ombre Artwork

Creating an ombre artwork is a lot easier than you think. Grab some paper, canvas, really whatever you have at home to paint on, a few of your favorite paint colors, and if you have one, a sponge paintbrush. Start with the first color and add some to about 1/4 or 1/3 of the page depending on how many colors you are working with; once that paint color has been spread throughout that section of the canvas, continue with the other paints. 6. French Knot Pillow Design

Produce an eye-catching pillow design with this easy and fun DIY. This french knot pillow design will help you create new pillows with items you have at home. Some fabrics you can use are old tights, old leggings, etc. There are many DIY tutorials, so get creative and have fun making new pillows. 

7. Tin Can Utensil Bins

You can up-cycle coffee cans and vegetable tins to produce colorful storage bins, for utensils or craft supplies. All you need are some cans, paints, colorful tape, paintbrushes, get creative, and add your personal touch. 

8. Painted Market Basket

Turn those old seagrass baskets into beautiful summer accessorizes. If you have some baskets lying around and some craft paint, get creative and make some fun summer patterns on the baskets to brighten up your picnic. 

9. Create a striped Lampshade

You can convert an ordinary white lampshade into a classic design, using fabric glue and ribbon or paint. Adding a striped pattern to an old lampshade and transform your lamp and give your room a makeover, just by changing the color of the shade.  

10. Recycled T-Shirt Rug

This fun DIY will let you recycle your old t-shirts into a new rug or bathmat. Grab ten or more t-shirts and follow this great pattern in the video below if you’d like a bigger rug get more shirts. 

These DIY projects are a great way to spend time with your family and help keep everyone busy. Crafting with the kids is a great way to make memories and help keep their minds off of being at home, considering our current situation.
