What to Bring and Wear to Camp
Campers should dress for active play each day. Your child should bring or wear these items to camp:
- Comfortable Clothes (Official KV Shirt not required during Winter Camp.)
- Athletic Shoes and Socks (no flip-flops or Crocs, please)
- Lunch. There is no lunch program available for Winter Camp, so every child must bring a lunch daily! There will be no Chick-fil-A Friday.
- Backpack
- Blanket or Nap Mat for Chill Time (Discoverers Only)
- Special Snow Day Note: Snow Day is snowy, then slushy, then really messy, so please do not dress your child in their brand new clothes! Gloves are great and so is a hat. Please send an extra change of clothes and a plastic bag for wet clothes.
Your child should not bring the following to camp:
- Toys or electronics. This includes iPods, cell phones, handheld gaming devices, and other similar electronics.
Lunches and Snacks
Please provide your child with a lunch each day they attend Winter Camp. No lunch program is available. Kidventure will provide snack and drink to our campers each day. All snacks are peanut and peanut byproduct free.
Lost Items
We encourage you to write your child’s name on everything and help them organize their belongings in one bag or backpack. Kidventure is not responsible for lost items at camp, so help us help your child keep their belongings together.
Health Concerns
Medication
If your child will be taking medication of any kind* during camp hours, you must fill out a Kidventure Medical Dosage Form. This includes over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol and Benadryl. This form must be turned in to the Camp Director with the medication in its original container on your child’s first day of Winter Camp. All medications will be dispensed by the Camp Director per your instructions. Please pick up your child’s medication on their last day of Winter Camp. Medications left at camp will be disposed of.
*Kidventure does not administer shots. If your child needs medication or insulin injections while at camp, you or another authorized party must come to camp to administer them when needed. We will aid in checking blood levels with retractable needles.
Sick Child at Camp
From time to time, children may become ill or not feel well at camp. Every camp location has a designated First Aid/Sick Station, where ill campers will be isolated from the other children and allowed to rest. If your child is sick, we will notify you, and in some cases we will ask you to pick your child up from camp. A child must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to camp.
Discipline and Rules
Expectations Agreement
Kidventure is a fun, active, and memorable experience, but first it must be safe. We take pride in creating a positive camp atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, accepted, and cared for. Therefore, we have created expectations that each camper and parent must understand and meet in order to attend camp. Below is a list of the basic expectations and rules that your child is expected to follow while at camp. Please read over all of these expectations and make sure that your camper understands them.
When at Kidventure:
- I will be respect other people, myself, and the facility.
- I will follow directions and rules at camp.
- I will not act violently toward any camper or staff member.
- I will not steal or destroy property belonging to Kidventure, the facility or other campers.
- I will not use lewd conduct and/or language.
- I will actively participate and conduct myself appropriately.
- I will do my best to have fun!
Counselor to Camper Ratio
Kidventure operates with a 1:8 counselor-to-camper ratio for Discoverers (Early Childhood), and a 1:10 counselor-to-camper ratio for Explorers (K-13). Campers are expected to safely participate within these set ratios.
Discipline
Camp is both fun and exciting, but only when there is organization and discipline. Discipline problems diminish when kids are active, engaged and having a great time, but sometimes issues do arise. We work closely with campers to resolve issues, and we will also inform you of any issues and ask for your assistance with discipline problems. If severe discipline troubles continue, we will ask the child not to return to camp.
We use a three-strike system for discipline:
- Strike 1: Counselor involvement with camper.
- Strike 2: Camper’s parent is notified.
- Strike 3: Camper is dismissed from camp. Parent or guardian is responsible for picking up the camper from camp.
Emergency Procedures
In the event of severe weather or any other potentially threatening situations, we will make every effort to notify you immediately regarding your child’s safety. Please make sure all of your contact information is up-to-date. If camp closure becomes necessary, we will announce all closures on local television and radio and contact you by email or phone. If you have any questions, please contact your local Kidventure office directly. We reserve the right to cancel any day(s) of camp due to inclement weather or any other situation which might compromise the safety of our campers, their families, or our staff. We do not issue refunds for cancellations due to these circumstances.
Refunds and Cancellations
Your complete Winter Camp payment is due at the time of registration. All requests for cancellations must be submitted to your Kidventure Office via email. Payment made toward camp days cancelled by December 1, 2011 will be refunded in full. After December 1, 2011, no refunds will be given for cancellations. If you do not submit your cancellation request via email by this deadline, you will not receive a refund in any amount. This policy applies to all camp days and add-ons.
