Engineering is everywhere! Come discover what an engineer does and even more exciting, inquisitively create your OWN hands-on projects using the Engineering Design Process. Enter a world of innovation, imagination, and learning.
PK-2nd – Junior Engineers (3:45-4:45pm):
Two courses in one semester!
This semester we begin by exploring the world of Civil Engineering: Building a house to withstand the Big, Bad Wolf is where the fun begins! This class is centered on exploring the concepts of building and construction through hands-on exploration and design. Students explore the engineering behind sky scrapers, bridges, roads, and more in this fun and engaging experience!
The second half of the semester: Intro to Programming: Programming and coding are becoming necessary skills for various fields of engineering. Students will be introduced to coding and develop programming skills by designing and developing simple and fun video games using laptops and MIT’s Scratch programming software. Tuition fee already includes the supply fee!
3rd-5th – Apprentice Engineers (4:45-5:45pm):
Two courses in one semester!
This semester we begin by exploring the world of Electrical Engineering: Come learn and design circuitry by making your own flashlights, wind turbines, and more! Then on to experience the thrill of COMPETITION! Prepare for this year’s VEX IQ Challenge – RINGMASTER at Engineering For Kid’s VEX IQ Robotics Academy! This robotics platform is designed to be simple and easy for students new to robotics, yet flexible and powerful to allow for a wide range of exploration in all aspects of STEM. A variety of gears, wheels and other assemblies allow for complete mechanical customization of VEX™ IQ robots. There will be programming challenges using RobotC (based on the computer programming language C). EFK coaches will help guide students to begin building robots capable of competing in school-year VEX™ IQ competitions. Any robotics experience is an asset, but no prior VEX™ IQ experience is necessary. This is not an official team. If interested in forming a 2017 competing team, please reach out to EFK.
*More about The VEX IQ Challenge: presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, provides elementary and middle school students with exciting, open-ended robotics and research project challenges that enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centered learning. The VEX IQ Challenge fosters student development of the teamwork, critical thinking, project management, and communication skills required to prepare them to become the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.
