When it comes to the Christmas season, there is no question that Houston goes all out. They have an immense amount of Christmas events not only for families but also for individuals as well. As you listen to the song “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” remember that your hometown of Houston desires to be the living personification of that. You can take in many of the Christmas lights, you can do a parade or two, and a litany of other things. Here are ten different suggestions that you and your family can do to make this 2019 Christmas season a holiday that you won’t soon forget:

1. “A Christmas Carol” at the Alley Theatre

Christmas presents us with several life lessons, and one of the most important of these would be generosity. What better way to give these lessons than the timeless “A Christmas Carol.” This Dickens tale is being presented at the Alley Theatre till December 29th, and tickets are just $39.

2. Winter Lights Festival

This holiday lights festival will be on display until January 5th, and you can rest assured it isn’t your run-of-the-mill display either. This is one of the only Christmas lights shows where you can see some unique lanterns and some Chinese acrobats! One of the main things this attraction has going for it would be their efforts to put a multicultural spin on the Christmas holidays. This attraction is located in Gulf Greyhound Park, and the tickets for adults are $22 apiece.

3. Houston’s Ballet The Nutcracker

Gather your family and join Clara as she makes you journey through a magical Christmas tree, and into the whimsical Kingdom of Sweets accompanied by her Nutcracker Prince. Complete your holiday season with this timeless Christmas classic; it’s sure to be a hit with the whole family. Catch The Nutcracker now till December 29th with tickets starting at $27.

4. Ice at Discovery Green

If you enjoy the opportunity to skate right in the middle of downtown Houston, now is your chance! The Ice at Discovery Green offers you the ability to skate with the Houston Skyline in the background at just $11 and $4 for the ice skate rentals.

5. Sugar Land Holiday Lights Sweetened by Imperial Sugar in Sugar Land

Take the family out to The Sugar Land Skeeters ballpark to see it transformed with over 3 million lights for a holiday light display that will entertain the whole family. Running now until January 5th, with different holiday-themed nights and holiday movies featured on the scoreboard.

6. Christmas in the Park

Have you ever wondered what Christmas was like for the first settlers who moved to Texas in the 19th Century? Wellhead on over to George Ranch Historical Park, every Saturday in December Santa will be reading a Christmas story in his temporary workshop at the 1930s George Ranch Home & Cattle Complex and different holiday activity classes taking place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will also be additional activities held December 14th and 21st at night with campfires, Christmas carols, stories, and hot cocoa.

7. Holiday in the Gardens

Grab the family and your friends and head over to Moody Gardens for not 1 but 8-holiday attractions all located in one park. From the Festival of Lights, Ice Skating, Holiday 3D Films, to Ice Land and even pictures with Santa this place is sure to be a hit with the whole family and leave a lasting impression for many years to come. 8. Trans-Siberian Orchestra Houston

The Houston chapter of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will knock your socks off. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra was a Christmas concert that was conceived by New York native Paul O’Neill. He wanted to design a rock opera with a Christmas theme. Ideally, he wanted to push the limits of what a Christmas rock show could show. He did this with lots of different musical influences, including The Who, Queen, and Pink Floyd, among many others. Luckily for us, his Trans-Siberian Orchestra did not stay just in New York City. Tickets for this extravaganza start at $49.50, and the show begins on December 22nd at the Toyota Center.

9. TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights – The Houston Zoo

If your family enjoys Christmas lights and they also enjoy going to the zoo, why not combine the two? Take a look at the LED lighting that is present not only in our venerable oak trees but also in their unique paths running across the zoo grounds. Add in the fact that you can decorate your sweet treats, and this will be a great family memory!

10. Christmas Village at Bayou Bend

A fantastic bridge going to an amazing white wonderland awaits you at the Bayou Bend will be a fascinating experience for you. If that weren’t enough, the fact that the grounds feature Ima Hogg’s regal mansion would also be appealing. Moreover, you can do all of this while enjoying the train going around the Christmas tree. Toss around some cotton balls, enjoy the scavenger hunts, and engage in numerous other games as well!
