Calendar of Theme Weeks

stpaul

Leads is unique from our Discover and Explore day camp program, in that it follows its own set of theme weeks. Each week we will highlight one of the core principals of leads.

Although we include all of these principals in everything that we do each week, we bring one to the forefront to give us diverse community service projects and guest speakers for each session, as well as tie the two together each week.

(June 4-8) Session I: Leadership (L)

LEADS Details

Click on the items below to learn specific information about registration, medical concerns, and site communication. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us!

Immunization Record

You are responsible for providing us with a copy of your teen’s current immunization record in order for your teen to attend camp. You may mail, fax (512.263.8992) or drop off your record. When faxing, please note the campsite your teen is attending and that they are part of the LEADS program. Records must be received by June 1, 2011.
If you provided us with an immunization record last summer, please call to confirm it is on file.

Drop Off Procedures

On the first Monday of the summer that your teen attends camp at a given campsite, you must accompany them into camp for drop-off. Embarrassing photos, smooches, or long goodbyes are allowed, but not encouraged. All subsequent days of the summer, including Mondays, you may drop-off in the carpool lane without leaving your vehicle. A counselor will escort your teen into camp.

Official Drop Off
8:45 AM to 9:00 AM (go through carpool line)

Pick Up Procedures

On your teen’s first day of camp, you will receive a pick up number card to be displayed on the front passenger side dashboard of your vehicle. This number is unique to your family. When picking up your teen from camp the pick up number will be required as an extra security measure. Anyone you authorize to pick up your teen must know this pick up number. Each teen will be checked out by a counselor and may only be picked up by persons designated on the registration form. Monday-Friday we will escort your teen to your vehicle during official pick up time only. If you are picking up your teen from post camp, please park and walk inside.

Official Pick Up
3:30 PM-3:45 PM (wait in vehicle)

Late Fee: Kidventure charges a late fee of $1 per minute for teens picked up after 6:00 PM. If your camper is picked up after 3:45 and is not enrolled in Post Camp, you will be charged $1 per minute remaining after 3:45, or $25 for post camp for the week, whichever costs less.

What to Bring and Wear to Camp

Every camper will receive one official Kidventure LEADS t-shirt with their registration, regardless of how many weeks for which they are signed up. While at Kidventure, teens must wear their official LEADS t-shirt at all times. Additional shirts may be purchased through the online camp store. Teens should dress appropriately and for general-purpose activities each day. The following are items your teen should bring or wear to camp. Please label everything:
1. Comfortable shorts or pants
2. Athletic shoes or sturdy Closed-Toed Shoes and socks (no flip-flops, please)
3. Sunscreen
4. Lunch
5. A backpack for all your stuff

Other items, such as swimsuits and towels or work clothes for community service trips, will be needed on certain days. We will note these in your weekly newsletter (see Communication section).

What Not to Bring to LEADS

Electronics (i.e. Nintendo DS, iPad, Laptops, etc.)
Kidventure also provides snack and drink to our campers each day. All snacks are peanut and peanut byproduct free.

Lost Items

We encourage you to have your teen write their name on everything and have their things organized in one bag or backpack. Kidventure is not responsible for lost items at camp, so help us help your teen keep their belongings together. All items not claimed by the end of the last week of camp will be donated to charity.

Sunscreen

We feel strongly about the dangers of sun exposure and the protection of our kids’ skin. Make sure your teen is applying sunscreen before each camp day.

Medication

If your teen will be taking medication of any kind during camp hours, you must fill out a Kidventure Medical Dosage Form. This form must be turned in to the Camp Director with the medication in its original container on their first Monday at camp. All medications will be dispensed by the Camp Director as per your instructions. This includes over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol and Benadryl. Click here:/files/medicaldosageform.pdf to access and print our medical dosage form. Please pick up your child’s medication on their last day of camp for the summer. Medications left at camp will be disposed of at the end of the summer.

Sick Teen at Camp

From time to time, children may become ill or not feel well at camp. Every campsite has a designated First Aid/Sick Station, where under-the-weather campers can be isolated from the other children and allowed to rest. If your teen is sick, we will notify you and in some cases we will ask you to pick your teen up from camp. A teen must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to camp.

Expectations at Camp

Kidventure is a fun, active and memorable experience, but first it must be safe. We take pride in creating a positive camp atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, accepted and cared for. Therefore, Kidventure has created expectations that each camper and parent must understand and meet in order to attend camp. Below is a list of the basic expectations and rules that you will need to follow while you’re here at camp. Please read over all of these expectations and make sure that you understand them. More information on the Kidventure expectations can be found in the LEADS handbook.

Expectations Agreement
When at Kidventure Camp:
I will be respect other people, myself, and the facility
I will follow directions and rules at camp
I will not act violently toward any camper or staff member
I will not steal or destroy property belonging to Kidventure, the facility or other campers
I will not use/practice lewd conduct and language
I will actively participate and conduct myself appropriately
I will do my best to have fun

Kidventure operates with a 1:10 ratio for LEADS (Ages 13-15). Campers are expected to safely participate within these set ratios.

Discipline

Camp is both fun and exciting, but only when there is organization and discipline. Discipline problems diminish when teens are active, engaged and having a great time, but sometimes issues do arise. We work closely with teens to solve matters and we will inform the parent and ask for your help in solving discipline problems. If severe discipline troubles continue, we will ask the teen not to return to camp.

Discipline will be handled in the following manner:
Strike 1 – Counselor discipline of teen
Strike 2 – Camper’s parent is notified.
Strike 3 – Camper is dismissed from camp. Parent or guardian is responsible for pickup/transportation of camper.

Payment Information

Paying Your Balance
Your final payment for each camp week is due on Monday one week prior to each camp week. We have the ability to
auto-bill your credit/debit card each week and parents are encouraged to enroll in this program. You will receive email reminders that your card will be charged. This is the default option when registering online, and is the recommended payment method. You can call the office at 713.960.8989 to request this service after registration.

If you do not wish to enroll in auto-billing, your payment options are:
1. Make a payment online using your Kidventure account. Click here to make a payment.
2. Call our office to have your credit/debit card on file charged manually.
3. Mail a check payable to Kidventure.
Regardless of the payment method you choose, we must receive your payment for camp by the Monday one week prior to the beginning of that camp week.

A tuition increase of $25 will take effect if your balance is not paid in full by the date due. We reserve the right to cancel your child’s registration due to nonpayment. If a registration is canceled for nonpayment, you will not be eligible for a refund.

Registration, Cancellations, and Refunds

A deposit of $50 per teen for each camp week is required at time of registration to secure your camp selections. There is also a one-time yearly non-refundable registration fee of $30 fee per camper that is due at the time of registration. Our cancellation deadline is May 1, 2011. If you make a cancellation by May 1, 2011, your deposits will be refunded in full. The $30 registration fee is not refundable at any time. If you cancel weeks after May 1, 2011, your deposits become non-refundable. After May 1, 2011, cancellations must be made by noon on the Monday one week prior to the start of that camp week. If you do not submit in writing a cancellation request by this deadline, you will be responsible for payment for that camp week. This policy applies to all programs, add-ons and fees. All requests for cancellations must be submitted to our main office in writing, via email or fax.

Communication

Weekly Communications: Your Kidventure Newsletter
On the Thursday prior to your camp week(s), you will receive the Kidventure newsletter. This newsletter contains an agenda for the week, important things to bring, information on the community service and field trips, upcoming events and other camp information. The newsletter will be emailed to you, so please make sure you the email you used to create your Kidventure account is one you check regularly. If you need to update this email address, please call us at the office.

Contacting Your Teen’s Campsite
If you must contact your campsite or teen, please call the main office directly at 713.960.8989. For the safety of all of our teens at camp, no camper is allowed to talk or text on their cell phone during the day (with the exception of our supervised ‘Tech Time,’ which will be announced in the weekly newsletters). Please help us in enforcing this rule by not calling your teen while they are at camp. Once you contact the main office, they will contact the camps staff for you and assist you in relaying any messages or answering any questions. We cannot provide you with a direct number to your teen’s campsite.
