Weekly Traditions

Opening and Closing Ceremonies
This special time is when everyone gets together for tons of energy and camp spirit. Camps songs are sung, counselors peform entertaining skits, and a sense of camp unity is created. For closing ceremonies campers are recognized for great accomplishments and the legendary Prize Box.

Friday Award Ceremonies
As part of the larger Closing Ceremonies, parents and friends are invited each Friday for the Camper Award Ceremony. Beginning at 2:30 PM, each camper is presented with our famous custom KV Ribbons. Presented by their counselor, each ribbon is awarded for a specific achievement or accomplishment made that week.

The Talent Show
We believe it is important for kids to have a chance to show their stuff in front of their peers. That’s why each Friday we present The KV Talent Show. Parents are invited. It’s so much fun and builds great self esteem.

Tickets
As part of our emphasis on teaching life skills, each counsleor carries with them a handful of tickets each day. These tickets are awarded to campers at any moment during the day when that camper demonstrates a variety of attributes such as kindness, teamwork, sportsmanship, manners, and so fourth. At the end of each day, those tickets are put into a drawing for the Prize Box.

Hidden KV
Each day a plastic replica of our ‘KV’ Logo is hidden somewhere on the campus. Campers are always on the lookout for the KV for they know that if their group finds it, it means something special at the end of the day. Hunting for the ‘KV’ allows for more engaging and organized transitions from activity to activity.

We use luxury tour buses which are equipped with air-conditioning and rest rooms to transport the campers on field trips. Specific field trips are indicated on your schedule.

Lunch and Snack

kidventure_41088.gif Campers have the option of bringing their own lunch or participating in Kidventure’s lunch program catered by Healthy Lunch Box in Houston and Bountiful Bakery in Austin. The cost for lunches for the week is $30 and may not be broken into individual days. It provides a nutritious and great-tasting alternative to sack lunches. Another option for campers is Chick-fil-A Friday. The cost for Chick-fil-A Friday is $6. The meal plan and Chick-fil-A Friday must be purchased 1 week in advance of the start of the camp week and must be paid for by that date. Menus are available upon request. NO substitutions to the menu are available for either program. Kidventure also provides snack and drink to our campers each day. All snacks are peanut and peanut byproduct free.

kidventure_57661.gif Camp T-shirts MUST be worn at all times during camp. Every camper will be given one free camp shirt with their initial registration, but additional shirts can be purchased from the camp staff at your campsite for $12.00 each.

When faxing, please note the site your child is attending and whether your child is an Explorer/Adventurer or Discoverer. Records must be received no later than May 15th. Please fax your current child’s record to either the Houston Kidventure office at 832-242-9163 or the Austin Kidventure Office at 512.263.4645 at the time of registration.

Please Do Not Bring To Camp

1. Toys or electronics (This includes Game Boys)
2. Heely’s (or other shoes with wheels)

A Word on Lost Items

We encourage you to write your child’s name on everything and have their things organized in one bag or backpack. Kidventure is not responsible for lost items at camp, so help us help your child keep their belongings together. All items not claimed by the end of the last week of camp, will be donated to charity.

About Sunscreen

At Kidventure, we feel strongly about the dangers of sun exposure and the protection of our kids’ skin. Please pack sunscreen and apply it to your child’s face and exposed areas prior to camp, and we will reapply throughout the day.

Medication

If your child will be taking medications of any kind during camp hours, you must fill out a Kidventure Medical Dosage Form. This form must be turned in to the Camp Director with the medication in its original container on Monday. All medications will be dispensed by the Camp Director as per your instructions. This includes over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol and Benadryl. Medical Dosage Forms available upon request.

Weekly Communications: Kidventure News

In order to better communicate with you about your child’s activities at camp, we have created a newsletter called the Kidventure News. The Kidventure News contains an agenda for the week, important things to bring, upcoming events and other camp information. The newsletter will be e-mailed to you the week before each week attending, so please make sure you have a current email account on file with the Kidventure office.

Emergency Procedures

In the event of severe weather or any other potentially threatening situations, Kidventure will make every effort to notify you immediately regarding your child’s safety. Please make sure all contact information is correct and up to date. If camp closure is necessary, we will announce any closures on local television and radio as well as contact you by email and phone. Should you have any questions, please contact the office directly. Kidventure reserves the right to cancel any day(s) of camp due to inclement weather or any other situation which might compromise the safety of our campers, their families, or our staff. Kidventure does not refund for cancellations due to these circumstances.

Sick Child At Camp

From time to time, children may become ill or do not feel well. Every camp has a designated First Aid/Sick Station, where he or she will be isolated from the other children and allowed to rest. If your child is sick, we will notify you and in some cases we will ask you to pick your child up from camp.

Discipline

Camp is both fun and exciting, but only when there is organization and discipline. Discipline problems diminish when kids are active, engaged and having a great time, but sometimes issues do arise. We work closely with kids to solve matters and we will inform the parent and ask for your help in solving discipline problems. If severe discipline troubles continue we will ask the child not to return to camp.

Code of Conduct

Kidventure operates in part through our Code of Conduct Sheet. This short form outlines our expectations of each camper and is to be signed by a parent and child at check in your first day of camp.

Camp Awards

Each week, your camp team will present campers with awards. These awards are given out on Fridays for honors such as being respectful, showing great camp spirit and helping others. This is a “big deal” at camp so look for any ribbons and awards your child might come home with and be sure to congratulate them!

Customer Service

One of our main goals to make the Kidventure experience for you and your child the best it can be. Our commitment is to exceed your customer service expectations and provide you with assistance and solutions in every area. Please call us anytime if you have a question.
